A lot of sites are reporting that EA’s Skate could be the next-gen Tony Hawk-killer that true boarders have been looking forward to for years. With today’s announcement of the Skate soundtrack it looks like EA is going for the jugular since the music in the Tony Hawk games has always been one its biggest selling points. However, Skate apparently has a lot of bases covered, with the old (Ramones and Sex Pistols), the new (The Falcon, The White Stripes), the hardcore (Bad Brains, The Dwarves, and Slayer) and everything in between (Nirvana, N.W.A., ZZ Top). Hit the jump for the entire, awesome lineup.

Pac-Man has made more than a few video game appearances since the early '80s. Even though he’s appeared in what seems like hundreds of derivations of the original he’s never really stepped too far out of his rotund role as a pellet-chomping ghost hunter. Unlike other video game mascots (who've played so many sports they're going to the Olympics this year), the Pac's hefty weight hasn't really let him step up his game. However, this could all change with the release of Smash Court Tennis 3 for the PSP in early July. It looks like Pac-Man might be able to shed some pounds on the courts as the star of one of the training mini-games.

Remember Bases Loaded? Better yet, remember Bases Loaded 3? Back when baseball games were really easy and let you play a quick game and then move on with your life without having to obsess over stats, lineups, and bullpens? For those of you who haven’t played a baseball game since then, there’s a new glimmer of hope: 2K Sport’s The BIGS. The main focus of the game has the players act as heroes and baseball as the sport of gods. In other words, they went a little over the top, but in a good way. I spent a little hands-on time with the game earlier this week and it looks like it could be a much more attainable and fun version of every other baseball game out there.

Video games usually defy reality in one way or another. However, there has always been one genre of games that does its best to give you an accurate representation of the real world: Sports games. Thanks to this week’s Virtual Console release of the second best boxing game ever, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (the best is Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!) we can see how it stacks up to reality, and examine some of the more nefarious questions that it raises...

Although I cry every time Bambi's mom gets shot and my parents named me Blair (just as The Facts of Life was at the height of it's popularity), I am, in the scientific definition of the word, a "guy." I enjoy guy things like burping, silently judging women and overeating to the point of physical discomfort. Oh yeah, and FREAKIN' DUNE BUGGY RACING! And that's why a few days ago was the epitome of awesomeness for yours truly.
In honor of the upcoming release of MotorStorm -- by my calculations, only one of two reasons to buy the $600 paperweight -- Sony flew a gaggle of games journalists (and I use the term "journalist" very, very loosely in reference to myself) out to the Mojave Desert for a little diesel-fueled, environment destroying fun in the sun.
Peep my pics, and check out the game on March 6th...it's effin' RAD.
